The Assumption University Historical Art Collection
The City of Windsor Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund
Over the past 200 years, works of art had been donated to Assumption University through generous donations from alumnae, faculty, and collectors. I found wonderful works inspired by faith and love.
There are 50- objects which make the collection at the Assumption University. These are beautiful pieces individually but as a collection, their story tells so much more.
These works are now installed in the Hallway of the Offices on the second floor. An exquisite mosaic work of Esther Adelman, a Madonna with sparkling blue robes of iridescent glass. She glows and sparkles with beauty and lights as well.
The collection is an expression of the faith and love of the educational mission of Assumption University and serves as a potential resource for diverse academic departments, including the History of Art, Archaeology, Classics, Anthropology, Fine Arts, History, and Languages. Highlights of the fine art collection include a significant work by the modern French Canadian painter Andre Masson and a fine and very early 17th century French armoire in high relief.
The Assumption University Historical Art and Artifact Collection is now on permanent display within the second floor hallway, offices and public rooms of Assumption University and at the Presidents and Brothers Retreat Houses located at 2629 and 2675 Riverside Drive West, Windsor Ontario.
This project was realized with the generous and in kind contributions from the Arts, Culture and Heritage Fund, distributed by the City of Windsor’s Cultural Affairs Office.
